2048 6x6 expands the familiar number-merging puzzle onto a board containing 36 spaces. The larger grid provides more freedom than the traditional version, allowing players to build longer number chains and recover from certain mistakes. However, extra space does not automatically make the game easy. Without a clear plan, the board can quickly become crowded with numbers that cannot reach each other.
The challenge is to transform a collection of small tiles into increasingly powerful values while keeping the grid organized.
How the Numbers Grow
A session begins with only a few numbered tiles. You move every tile on the board simultaneously by swiping or using the arrow keys. Tiles slide in the selected direction until they reach the edge of the grid or another tile blocks their path.
When two tiles with the same number meet, they merge:
2 + 2 creates 4.
4 + 4 creates 8.
8 + 8 creates 16.
16 + 16 creates 32.
This pattern continues as you build 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, and eventually 2048. A new tile appears after each valid move, gradually reducing the amount of available space.
You lose when the grid is full and no matching tiles can be combined. Therefore, every merge has two purposes: increasing the value of your numbers and opening space for future moves.
